This will be short and sweet. First off, we’ve got an announcement. Second, we’ve got a call for art. Third, we’ve got a special deal.
First, the announcement. Work on the next Casey Grimes book—that would be CG #5 and book #7 overall—has begun. It just took a while.
This year has been tough because we’ve been trying to make some big changes here at Vanderhorst HQ. The key word there is trying. We thought by this time we’d have sold our house and relocated somewhere more adventurous, taking Lion & Co Press with us. I thought I’d be writing the new book with new views.
Unfortunately, things keep happening to prevent our escape. It seems to be dragging out forever. 2024 will go down as one of those awkward years.
Turns out, it’s not easy to write a new book with moving boxes piled around the house and furniture stacked in corners. But enough is enough. Finally I started the manuscript with help from some cool weather and the back deck. I’ll be honest—it’s on the choppy side. It’s rough. But 25,000 words are on the page. That’s about half a novel, and luckily I have a good editor, who also happens to be my wife.
Casey Grimes #5 will definitely happen.
Second, the call for art. We’re looking for more pictures of Casey’s Sylvan Sword. Do you like to draw? Do you know someone who does? Let’s make this happen. Create your picture with pencils, markers, crayons, whatever you like, and send it my way. These pictures will appear in the next Sylvan Sketches.
